The village of Ruvu Remit is located on the Manyara side of the Pangani River, about 100 km downstream from the Nyumbya-ya-Mungo Dam and about 150 km south of Moshi. Ruvu Remit can be reached by car in 4 to 5 hours.
The water supply system in the village of Ruvu Remit was built in 2022 and includes a bank filtration well to extract water from the riverbank. The water is pumped 1 km to an elevated tank using a solar-powered DC pump. There, the water is disinfected and distributed via three prepaid taps installed at the secondary school, the health station and in the village centre. Users can top up their prepaid water cards to access safe drinking water from the water taps.
This project enables local people, together with local project partners, to generate income through online water taps, thus offering a sustainable solution.
Construction of a new, flood-proof, shallow bank filtration well (RBF) in a safe area and a new solar-powered AC pump, including expansion of the solar panel area.
The health station will be equipped with a separate water meter so that it can obtain clean drinking water for a small fee and cover its own needs.
The project is to be implemented largely with the labour of the local population. In this way, the waterkiosk foundation turns those affected into participants.
