Clean drinking water is one of the factors allowing for a better supervision of young, handicapped students.
Around 80 children and adolescents attend the Irente rainbow school for the mentally handicapped and autistic near the town of Lushoto in the Usambara mountains in north-eastern Tanzania. Unfortunately, there are only about a handful of such institutions in Tanzania – it is thus all the more important for them to focus on giving support to these children and not having to worry about clean drinking water.
Against this background, the Irente rainbow school, with its playground and brightly blossoming garden, is like a small miracle. The school is run by the north eastern diocese of the evangelical Lutheran church of Tanzania (ned elct) and is financed by profits generated by the Irente farm lodge.
