Safe Drinking Water at Pandahill Secondary School, District, Mbeya Region

Pandahill Secondary School in Tanzania’s Mbeya Region is one of the long-standing partner projects of the waterkiosk foundation. In 2019, it became the first waterkiosk project in southwestern Tanzania. Since then, various water treatment systems have provided approximately 1,900 students, teachers and staff with reliable access to safe drinking water. However, the existing filtration systems have now reached the end of their operational lifespan and need to be replaced.
To ensure a sustainable water supply for the future, the waterkiosk foundation plans to install a modern SuMeWa system with solar-powered electrochlorination. The new system will provide reliable water disinfection and is specifically designed to meet the school’s growing demand. Today, the campus consumes around 121,000 litres of water per day. The upgraded system will ensure a safe and dependable drinking water supply for years to come.

Treated drinking water will be distributed through several water points located close to classrooms, dormitories, the health centre and administrative buildings, ensuring easy access for all students and staff.
The project will improve health conditions, reduce the risk of waterborne diseases and create a better learning environment. At the same time, the waterkiosk foundation relies on proven solar-powered technology and close cooperation with the school community to guarantee the long-term sustainability of the system. This creates lasting opportunities for education, health and personal development.
